"When large funds sell"
I'm unclear where the idea has come from that large funds (plural) have sold out. We've had one large fund divest - Smedvig. The rest of the list is mostly a shuffle of nominee holders.
"Maybe there's a happy middle-ground?"
Speaking personally, I pay close attention to what the insiders are doing and otherwise don't read much into the T20. Updates are more of a curiosity than an actual factor in my analysis. Who the shareholders are changes nothing on the ground for the company.
