I am also of the mind that he can't outright say there will be a recession because that'll accelerate the markets into one i.e a self fulfilling prophecy. Imagine telling the public there will likely to be one. SWHTF overnight and companies/businesses will tighten up their books, markets will crap itself and retail will flee in droves.
Many measures are showing signs of us entering a recession (and that's if we aren't already in one which I think we are).
