Just responding to what you said, which Ill remind you went like this:
"With so many losses in other assets, how do they prop up the balance sheet so the bottom line looks good in a hugely competitive industry ? Sell something that has made them a crap load of money"
Bal sheet doesn't show losses/profit. Bottom line refers to profit which is on the income statement. Either way you dont have to sell anything as a fund revalues assets to FV.
