I would never cut off my nose to spite my face. Whether I sell is not something directly connected to the nomination.
The Chairman nominally leads the shareholders, which I certainly do not. However if I do achieve a majority of votes then one might construe that I have a better claim than the current Chairman by virtue of our opposing positions and the vote.
If anything, my ability to buy or sell would be adversely impacted by my election to the board.
