    I think one of our problems is that we have privatised too many functions in this country.

    There are "natural monopolies" that should never be privatised and others which can but with stringent controls. The inclination of private enterprise is to maximise profits for its shareholders, everyone else is second by the length of the proverbial Flemington Straight (ie daylight second).

    Some things should never be privatised eg aspects of health / age care / etc. Some aspects can but again with stringent controls with a legislated one strike and you are out policy.

    While I have no time for public servants they have an important role to play and, IMO, will do a far better job in certain areas than private enterprise.
