Maybe it is an American culture to write like this , so they tend to not see an issue with it ?

I know what you mean Plough.

- Average Gross Profit margins on chemical sales increased by 13.3 percentage points from FY 2016 to 1% and now at 23% with higher margin business over 40%;
- Gross Profit margins increased by 37 percentage points from Q3 2017 to Q1 2018 with further growth forecasted;

Why not just keep it simple with the statement 'gross profit margins have improved and continue to do so'.
