Unfortunately nothing with economics is that simple..... With less people using negative gearing to purchase houses, the price will (should) fall (supply/demand), therefore making it more affordable to for some would-be renters to buy freeing up a number of rental properties. Whether the number of new buyers is enough to offset the fewer number of rentals is difficult to answer without extremely in depth data and modelling.
