Very much mixed opinions, just like any software there are those who prefer one product to another.
You can read through discussions on reddit, generally it seems that ALU is more adopted in professional settings. Perhaps a more valid comparison to say KiCAD would be Altium Circuit Maker which is also a free community driven solution.
