If you are thinking of investing in SHV, then be prepared to strap yourself in for a wild ride. The price of the stock is heavily influenced by local growing conditions and international prices, both of which largely outside the control of management. Check the charts: an all-time high of $14.33 at the end of 2005, down to $1.18 at the end of 2012, back above $12 in mid-late 2015, and then a rough down-and-up-and-down descent to $4 today.

I hold SHV a bit reluctantly, but currently play with the idea of getting some more. In view of (inevitable?) volatility beyond management control, my evolving strategy with them is to buy any time below $4 and sell any time above $8. And I would keep SHV a very small part of my portfolio.
