As usual the “Oracle of Omaha” talks his investments, is he in or out of gold, is he secretly buying gold shares, gold bullion or……….

There are many flaws with his rantings:

1. Gold is not considered an investment, not even by the most ardent gold “bugs”. (a deliberate slur on people who believe in sound money)

2. Gold is money, the only money, money which has endured for 5,000 years and always will.

3. People buy gold in order to park their net wealth in a vehicle that is the only safe, and universally accepted, form of money.

4. TPTB won’t allow the free exchange of gold for goods and services at the moment. So the only alternative for gold holders is to wait out the inexorable decline and inevitable demise of fiat currencies, and hope that a saner, and tried and proven system of gold backed money is implemented to exchange their gold into the new ‘gold certificates’, and from whence to other income producing assets.

5. In times of such distress in the financial system, staring into the abyss of total collapse, most people won’t even consider investing in such income producing assets, they might all become worthless in a severe depression, but gold, on a comparative valuation, will endure and preserve the value.

6. In this new fiat money system, and particularly in times of such distress and extreme instability, gold plays a role akin to the ultimate arbiter, a role that it can’t be deprived of, as most people instinctively view gold as the ultimate form of money.

But of course we all know this already, and more.

In recent times Buffett has lost most of his credibility with scandals of insider trading accusations and more. He’s not a straight shooter and his rantings are more designed to obfuscate his true motives than to elucidate.
