The important Trans Australia Railway between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie remains closed part of the way, but track repairs between Kingoonya, South Australia (335km northwest of Port Augusta) and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, the majority of the line by distance, have been completed according to one source.

However there was further extensive flooding much closer to Adelaide, between Bookaloo (85km northwest of Port Augusta, SA) and Pimba (181km from Pt Augusta).

It will apparently take a few days to repair the track as the flooding was unfortunately in multiple locations.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation intends to undertake an aerial inspection prior to reopening.

I'd hope that in a week's time, LAU containers on Pacific National intermodal trains are again travelling between Adelaide,Melbourne, Sydney/Parkes or other capitals and Perth (or Darwin, as that line junctions at Tarcoola in SA).

Those Perth and other West Australian/ Northern Territory supermarket shelves need restocking and rail plays a vital part in transporting these goods from Melbourne in particular and to a lesser extent Sydney, which doesn't manufacture or process as as Melbourne.
