The first train for about 24 days that operated across the Nullarbor by 0745 AEDT (0445 WST) was approaching Toodyay, Western Australia, and was about 107 rail kilometres from Perth's Kewdale rail freight yards.
Between Adelaide and Perth there are three Pacific National westbound intermodal trains, some or all of which should have LAU loading on board, and four eastbounds. A further Dynon, Melbourne to Kewdale, Perth intermodal has just passed through Keith in South Australia on the Melbourne-Adelaide line, while on the Broken Hill line there's a Sydney to Perth intermodal that may be shunting at Goobang Junction, near where the major Parkes, NSW rail terminal is, the origin for many containers that then travel by rail to Perth and Darwin.
There's also a One Rail Australia intermodal that has just departed Adelaide for Darwin.
The rail line's closure must have cost LAU a fair amount, unfortunately, but MD/CEO Mr Lindsay said at the last update that LAU had secured quite a deal of space on Pacific National freight trains, so hopefully those good relations will prove beneficial.
The appointment of a Director with rail expertise was a significant move. Mr Lindsay himself and others have huge experience in road transport so it's great to see LAU knowledgeable about both at Board level.
