They have told you exactly what is happening. Full disclosure on their behalf and in hindsight they should be congratulated on their transparency, albeit being hidden in an innoculous comment.
However, behind the scenes it is well known. Always consider due diligence and research. You do not hold a stock for ~seven years without making connections. A beer here and a beer there is often an enlightening experience with ones companions.
