Hi Dave - CDX are 20 years ahead. I wrote a response about this maybe 6 months back. CDX was ACG, and ACG had 20 years of R&D applied into Sphygmocor, which today remains the gold standard for blood pressure measurement, used by the FDA in drug trials, and over 3000 academic citations. ACG was not a "IT" company, rather, a medical device company leading the world in blood pressure measurement. Their know-how is patented science, specifically, the algorithms. Apple do not have this capability in house. The only way they can is to acquire, or build this capability so they can research themself - this will take 5+ years. The difference between software and medical research is vast. Whilst any developer can read a few code libraries and bang together an app that professes blood pressure readings - it's only as good as the data, and that comes from sensors. The science to make the sensors accurate, and measure a complex - non digital system (the human body), and make sense of all the analog noise is far harder, and worlds apart well described buiblding blocks (software libraries) used by software engineers.

CDX already have the first mover advantage - years/decades ahead - and that advantage is the IP from Sphygmocor. When CDX's consumer products get FDA approved, Sphygmocor will be used by the FDA to trial. This IP advantage means superior sensors, which means superior data. Companies will therefore need to integrate with CDX to get high quality BP data, or use other tech (which exists but is not gold standard - frankly, its shit). The only other option I see is acquiring CDX, which will be at least a billion dollar transaction.
