Assuming a shorter rode it from the top till now, they've made roughly 53% profit, excluding costs.

That's their 53% compared to my 300%.

Sure, shorters have a quicker turnover. But they have to replicate that performance to match my return. AND where my liability is limited to my holdings, their liability is infinite. Yes, the shorters can set stop losses. But if the market gaps up on a great announcement, then there is no reset button, and they'll be stuck holding the bag.
