Maybe because Liberia appears to have close US links.
Or the cynic in some may suggest that if the US was so hellbent in introducing democracy and freedom to those oil rich Iraqis, why can't they apply the same to the poor and downtrodden Liberians? Maybe, just maybe, the article and the UN are highlighting the hypocricy that is all pervasive in the US administration (if you can call it that) today?
Or maybe the US likes to be selective in who it liberates eh Yak? No interest in Liberia. Not enough money in it for Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.
