I think it is impossible to say whether this is positive, negative to entirely neutral in the scheme of things.
One alternative could be that the role of sales and marketing has become less important because the more complicated work has now been completed - and a dedicated sales and marketing position is no longer necessary - if that were the case then this would be positive not negative.
