To clarify something I wrote above, Melbourne - Brisbane intermodal trains can in theory operate via Albury - Cootamundra - Stockinbingal - Parkes - Narromine - Dubbo - Elong Elong - Ulan - Muswellbrook - Singleton then via a triangle affording access to the normal North Coast NSW line usage just south of Telerah and thence via Taree and Coffs Harbour as usual, but this alternative route is circuitous.
Not only is it longer it means trains travel at a slower median speed. It was recently used a few weeks ago when there was scheduled trackwork.
The Campbelltown - Moss Vale section of the Sydney - Melbourne rail line will be closed until at least the weekend.
