It is treated as a gain due to the impact it has had by decoupling the negative equity in the subsidiary from the MNS Balance Sheet. It has arrived in the P&L as income and as much as it clearly is not, it has the same impact at the bottom line of the Balance Sheet as an operating profit would - adding equity to the Balance Sheet. Pretty hazy to be calling it income and ultimately giving rise to a profit, but if you can get away with it.........
