There are no silly questions in science, just silly answers.
Bisantrene has two mechanisms of action: 1. A high dose chemotherapeutic; and 2. A low dose FTO. The study was designed to look at chemotherapeutic mechanism of action, but while the study was underway the FTO paper came out so Nikki’s team also looked at the FTO expression in these cell lines too. If you are looking into the FTO effects of Bisantrene in breast cancer you would design very different experiments, but since the data was there we decided to look and see. In science is is always best to not assume anything and let the data talk. We now have an interesting potential FTO mechanism of action to explore (low FTO expression) that may expand where Bisantrene can be use in the clinic.
