what you said "The fact they've sold down inventories without replacing them artificially inflates earnings" doesn't make sense. The key words are "sold down" .. sold sold sold the inventories are not stagnating - sold sold sold and more selling in the pipeline, the sell off in shares is not so great but the sell off in inventories is desirable - the shares are by most analysts a buy now (not just the motley fool who has held KGN for a long time now) with confidence in the future of KGN
