China now has over 680 Automotive manufacturers, and credit where credit is due, China is now looking to lead in electric cars, for which it is highly plausible, due to state ownership and long term thinking they will leap frog all those reluctant others caught napping like Toyota, BMW etc..
again I think JV in China expose you to IP theft, that said electronics hardware is derived mostly from datasheets nowdays and as such most IP is in apps and algorithms, for instance in medical companies it is the therapies...
