Project Description

Emerald House, LLC has applied to access and drill on valid Federal oil and gas leases under an existing five-year Right-of-Way (FF097644) (ROW) for winter exploration on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A). Emerald House is proposing to amend their existing ROW to include access to and drilling of one exploration well. The proposed operations would occur on oil and gas tracts leased by Emerald House . The proposed project is a continuation of a multi-year oil and gas exploration program within Emerald House’s Peregrine Lease Block to explore, delineate, and appraise the oil and gas potential in the Merlin Play. Emerald House is proposing to drill the Merlin 2 exploratory well during the winter 2022 and continue to access through 2025 for testing and appraisal. The BLM inspected the new well location during August 2021.

What's New

The five-year Emerald House Peregrine Exploration Program (previously known as the AEA Peregrine Exploration Program) began in the winter 2021 and consisted of exploratory drilling of 1 well (authorized by an Application for Permit to Drill) and surface activities to access and support exploratory drilling (including snow road and ice pad construction) (authorized by a Right-of-Way). An Environmental Assessment (EA) for the five-year Peregrine Exploration Program was completed on January 15, 2021 (DOI-BLM-AK-R000-2021-0003-EA). An EA was also completed on December 20, 2021, that included drilling 1 exploratory well and surface activities during the winter of 2022 in the Peregrine Exploration Program area (DOI-BLM-AK-R000-2022-0004-EA). An amended Right-of-Way for surface activities was issued on December 22, 2021.

The BLM will accept and consider additional public comments on the EA from January 21, 2022, through January 31, 2022, prior to taking action on the Application for Permit to Drill one exploratory well in 2022. The EA and related information can be found under the "Documents" button located on the left-hand panel.
