Convoy63 - in reply to your question -"why is software easier and cheaper to build now" the tools required to build software have improved 1000 times in the past 10 years. However once you select a platform/tool you are locked into it for the development life of the product. In addition many items that required years to build are now available thru 3rd parties, the cloud eliminates the need for data replication, internet availability around the world allows software to be purely cloud based, mobile devices are far more capable and the list goes on and on.
Most importantly you are not re-inventing the wheel - you are benefiting from all those who came before you and building an improved version.
