Other than having no risk management, those vague saying probably contribute to more losses than anything else.
Did your family friend happen to tell you where the “Buy in the gloom” zone started??
all the way back at the first bounce at 34c or at each consecutive lower low?
Better basic advice would have been to sell when it gets below the 50DMA, don’t buy before it crosses back above the 50D or 200DMA.
