Corporate demand for many routes (outside the mines) was in decline from the mid 2000's. My local Regional airport, serviced by REX, saw peak corporate passenger movements around 2006 and It's been in decline ever since, despite booming regional populations.. At that time, I was doing regular REX flights into and out of Sydney, but as connectivity improved, the need for corporate travel mostly evaporated. Nowadays, Regional airports are reliant on medical and discretionary travel, with a bit of corporate thrown in for those mandatory cap city business trips. Aside from the cashed up Boomers, who are making bank in this high interest rate, high rent environment, discretionary air travel isn't even on the radar for many locals, in these areas, who are barely keeping a roof over their head.
