I don’t believe it’s right to conflate what may happen with the Medicxi deal in developing drugs and what happened with AZD0466. I suspect a different outcome would have eventuated if it were Starpharma Petalion not Starpharma AZ.
There is currently no cure for leukaemia. AZD0466 was extremely toxic at the doses they used before they canned it. Our dendrimer made it less toxic but at those doses there was still significant adverse side effects. It was a shame they didn’t continue the trial at the lower doses that had proved well tolerated and efficacious. Remembering also the people on the trial were at late stage and this was the alternative to soc. I believe if it were Medicxi providing the funding for that program they would likely have extend funding to progress that trial but at the lower doses and achieved a success.
