If you want to demonstrate the efficacy of your new drug, you do actually want to demonstrate that it has a statistically significant effect. Using BIT225 in conjuction with the latest Harvoni therapy proves nothing about BIT225. You'd get no signal out of the noise. For trial purposes it makes complete sense to use with Interferon/Ribavirin. For one, you get approval through the ethics committees, and two, you actually get some signal that confirms BIT225 has a statistically significant effect on viral load.
