Americans do not like granting lucrative drug licences outside U.S. companies unless they really have to. They play grubby pool on many such occasions, such as when IBM went to Malcolm Frazer to get an award of a major computer contract to Facom overturned. It is part of their system to have elected politicians at the top of their government instrumentalities and lobbying and election contributions are the way they do things.

This probably will not change the decision but it will delay it, a competitive pharmaceutical corporation somewhere has paid their money for a delay and has got it.
