Yes, no longer flavour of the month. But coal still has a long term future. While many US power stations can switch from coal to gas, the ones in China cannot. There is a huge installed base of coal fired power stations in China, and more are being built. In the US, gas prices are probably going to rise so that some stations will switch back to coal.

There IS a future for good thermal coal projects, ie. low down on the cost curve.
