    With no idea where you are, the first thing I would do is to put in permanent water. I just live in suburbia and we have had a bird bath for many years and i think it has made a BIG difference in our bird life.

    We have had constant, unseasonal rain now for months so they have not had to rely on us and have spread. But this shows how much they depend on us during the dry: They never go far then.

    If you want to attract native birds you don't need to limit yourself to native trees. For example you cold plant a strawberry tree

    which flowers and fruits year round. If you plant one of these a family of mistletoe birds

    will take up residence. They are second preference for parrots but with availability year round they are appreciated in lean times.

    two notes of warning: The mistletoe bird, while delightful, WILL spread mistletoe through your trees, and the strawberry tree could become a pest in tropical watercourses.
