The vision for renewables is not to base the electricity needs on demand but on the worst case scenario. The two bad weeks of the year.
What does that mean? It means the other 90% of the time we would be producing 3x to 5x the energy we require.
Solar still produces electricity when its cloudy but only 10% to 20% efficient. But if you have 5x the energy needs even on a cloudy day solar could be producing 50% of what is needed.
