More research champ, Ni is not used to make steel, iron ore is. N i is used in speciality alloy steel production and SS production. It is also used in hardening in conjunction with Co in turbine blade manufacture. And surprise surprise it is required as the majority metal in the ever expanding EV market.
And just for you my limited knowledge friend the LME only trades Class 1 Nickel greater than 99.8%. The lower grade Class 2 Ni are used in the SS industry. The Class 1 is used in specialty metal and EV industry and guess what as you said LME warehouse stocks are falling due to increased use of Class 1 Ni.
I think it may be you that require a bit more research. IMHO.
