The yellow lines show where the stock was in a stage 4 decline, the purple lines show where it's potentially changed to a stage 1 base. Of course the base could fail and the stage 4 decline resume. For it to get on traders radars, it needs to break out of that base and form a new higher base, signalling the start of a stage 2 uptrend.
