    If I understand it correctly, a crack that is opened under stress & closes when aircraft is on the ground & not under stress, can be detected by the CVM technology as a result of the air pressure applied to one gallery & a vacuum to another during testing.

    It also mentions it being unreliable at high altitudes in being able to maintain a vacuum.

    The ability of crack detection that is not visible by use of CVM technology far outweighs any visual inspection.
