BHP has announced it is divesting from Thermal coal today.
Prior to announcement it was a poorly held secret.
CEO has stated that it could take path of a spin-off of the Australian Thermal coal asserts, similar to South 32, or a straight asset sale of the group or individual units.
To me, it's long overdue. In current climate these assets are running at a minor deficit, thermal coal is super low and USD is down, looking to head lower IMO.
From my perspective, most likely outcome is a demerger/spin off.
Anyone care to comment on how this would most likely effect current Shareholders?
