lucas isidoro bid to destabilise indonesia: pm lucas, the only reason that Indonesia is experiencing these problems at the moment is that they have turned away from an authoritarian rule and are going down the road to democracy, one that the west virtually demanded. There is no doubt that Suharto kept such problems under control, and if push came to shove, might revert to to such rule again. Despite all the negative press given to Suharto there is still strong support for him within Indonesia. He is too old himself to return to power but all any such leader would need is his blessing.
Of course it would be a problem for the West to digest, but if the situation was serious enough they are likely to find some means to justify acceptance. In 1965 it was essential for the West to have pro -western leaders firmly established around Asia. Communism was then seen as a major threat. At the time it was seen as perhaps a bigger threat than what Islamic extremists are seen now. I'm sure we would allow history to repeat itself it we could see it as a solution.
