Bronwyn Bishop: Speaker resigns, PM launches review of entitlements
Bronwyn Bishop has been forced to step down amid a furore over her use of parliamentary entitlements as her Liberal colleagues demanded her resignation to prevent further damage to the government.
Tony Abbott announced the resignation at press conference in Sydney this afternoon where he also revealed a “fundamental review” of the millions of dollars spent on entitlements, declaring that he understood the community concern over the system.
Mr Abbott blamed the “deficient” system rather than rebuking Ms Bishop as he praised her for doing “the right thing” by resigning.
