“I wish to put on record my dissatisfaction with the Two Million Dollar donation made by Wesfarmers to the “Yes” campaign out of shareholders funds.If the board wishes to make a donation of that amount to a particular “cause” (and in this case a political one) out of their own pockets, then that is their prerogative. I must however object most strongly when Wesfarmers is seen to be supporting a political view to which I do not subscribe; and does so by using the funds in “my” company !I wonder if Senior Management of Wesfarmers prior to their “donation”, held a referendum amongst their employees to see if they too supported the decision to give away a significant amount ?I suggest the result of that referendum, would have been a resounding NO !Please refrain from becoming directly involved in politics and using shareholders funds to support causes which will inevitably alienate a significant proportion of your shareholders.”
