In 2005 about 250,000 tonnes of zinc (half the LME stocks of zinc) was held in 24 (LME listed) warehouses in New orleans.
A lot of zinc stock there couldn't be sold after Katrina -it couldn't be released to market until it was cleaned and with the condition of the city, it was some time before zinc could again be sourced from New Orleans.
