Diesel now requires more refining than before. There is even "winter" and "summer" grades. the winter grade has more wax removed.
In the Bathurst 24 hr a couple of years ago, the Australian team's diesels weren't lasting but the Europeans were. Inquiries revealed that they brought their own fuel with them. I somehow doubt that your modern common-rail diesel would like the cheaper, older brew.
There is seldom a simple answer for anything and simply blaming the oil cos for everything is prolly an oversimplification too.
Caltex still makes more money in their Star Shops than their driveways. Has anyone sold their banks to buy CTX? It sounds as if you should, they are minting it.
