I'm not sure if I'm explaining clearly.
To produce methanol from carbon dioxide and water (used to produce hydrogen) more energy is needed than can be created by using the methanol as an energy source.
Here is an example of the calculations done for slightly different process of CO2 capture, the idea works if a nuclear reactor provides power.
