The experience in Russia should provide JWs with an idea of what it is like to be persecuted on the grounds of religious belief. But they insist on persecuting families through shunning.
JWs may justify shunning through avoiding some sort of perceived pollution of their flock by non-believers. Perhaps the Russians want to avoid perceived pollution through contact with JW doctrine.
JWs don't appear to learn from personal experience so there is little chance of them learning from others.
