To be honest, expecting anything other than what they have mentioned will lead to disappointment. Just expect what they've said the halt is for and anything more is a bonus.
But to answer your question, yes that sort of thing does happen if a company is forced into a trading halt unexpectedly and was also preparing to announce something else in the same time frame.
