Here's a good (but cheesy) clip on popcorn popper coffee roasting; start from the 1-min mark. It's good because you can hear the cracks but also can see the smoke! That smoke contains oils which will leach into the walls should you roast inside, with the smell lingering for weeks. Some add an extension tube to stop the beans from spilling over the sides - beans double in size during roast, so you either add much less than you think is required or you add an extension.
I roast and then drink make my coffee straight away, regardless of the time waiting theories. But when it comes to black coffee, I prefer the stove top method and the plunger rather than my fancy machine.
