JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A unit of South Africa's DRDGOLD has agreed to sell its 20 percent stake in the Porgera gold mine to Canada's Barrick Gold Corp for about $250 million in cash, DRDGOLD said on Thursday.

DRDGOLD previously announced its Australian unit, Emperor Mines , was undergoing a restructuring to clear debt after it closed its Vatukoula mine in Fiji.

The deal with Barrick, which already owns 75 percent of Porgera, will leave Emperor with A$130 million ($107.3 million) in cash, a statement said.

The purchase price for the deal, which is due to be completed within four months, includes an additional unspecified "adjustment amount," the firm added.

Emperor also granted Barrick the option of subscribing for up to 153.3 million of its shares, equal to about 13 percent of its capital.

DRDGOLD said in February that its 20 percent stake in Porgera produced 23,664 ounces of gold in during the three months to end-December and made a cash operating profit of $3.3 million.

DRDGOLD shares gained 1.52 percent to 4.67 rand by 1142 GMT, outperforming a slightly weaker gold index .
