Shares in aspiring iron ore miner Aztec Resources were 5.5 cents stronger at 24 cents after a signing ceremony with native claimants at an historic miner site in north-western Australia over the weekend.

Mine deal set to boost Indigenous jobs
Traditional owners of the remote Koolan Island, north of Derby in northern Western Australia, are set to benefit from a new deal signed with a junior iron ore explorer.

The Dambina-Nagrdi people and Aztec Resources yesterday signed a co-existence agreement, paving the way for construction to proceed at the former BHP mine.

The company is aiming to export its first shipment of ore by the end of the year.

Aztec has committed to have 30 per cent of the 220-person work force filled by Indigenous people by the eighth year of operation.
