imho,
The current market rates will not be deterring automakers and motor OEM's and there is room to move price some more.
To give an example from real life, we were making a selling a fractional horsepower REE PM motor in big volumes which also had electronics to drive the motor. At the peak of the REE prices in 2011, the increase in magnet price added 35 to 40% to the cost of the motor including electronics which were integrated into the motor. OEM customers were not happy with the tariff we had to impose to cover the cost. Effectively, excluding electronics, they motor cost doubled.
Alternate tech was developed and was ready to replace REE PM motors if REE prices had not fallen.
And AL herself gave an example of an automaker that moved from REE motors because of price.
