If you compare price chart to Shorts over the last month, the rise around the 7th correlates to the drop in shorts. Then the SP has been sideways even with a rise in the short positions. This seems to show that buyers are soaking up the short sells on average.
Volume has dropped as short level plateaus. Their problem is now they need to buy the shares back to exit.
