For the life of me I cannot understand Minister Bowen’s mantra about ending fossil fuels.
How are the 2.1 million deadweight tons (2021) of ships that moved 11 billion tons of freight around the world in that year going to be powered without fossil fuel?
How are the 9.4 billion aviation passengers expected to fly in 2024 without fossil fuel?
Air freight volumes were 65.6 million metric tons in 2021. How will this urgent and perishable freight be transported without fossil fuel?
Our remote island continent is almost wholly dependent on liquid fuels, including for Defence, to be imported. Just how do we, and our outspoken island neighbours, survive economically without aviation fuel and diesel trucks and mining machinery.
Maybe in 50 years there’ll be nuclear powered ships, but as a retired pilot I can see no economically viable alternative aircraft fuel!
